Urgent Appointment

Urgent same day matters are dealt with through a telephone triage system. The success of this system depends upon patients using our e-consult service in the first instance.

By completing an e-consult, the Duty Doctor can assess whether you require;

  • Advice only
  • Attendance at the Surgery today or at some point in the future
  • A home visit

In addition, they are in a position to decide the priority given to certain patients based on the clinical information available.

All e-consult requests will be acknowledged within 4 hours of being received (within the working day). Where applicable, the Practice will contact the patient either by a telephone call or by text.

Please ensure that if you have a No Caller ID call block on your telephone that this is deactivated whilst you are waiting for the Doctor to return your call.

Please note ALL calls to and from the Practice are recorded for training and monitoring purposes.

A message to our Learning Disability families

A parent is able to complete the eConsult form for any child 16 years or under.

The eConsult can also be completed on behalf of adults with a Learning Disability who are unable to complete the form themselves. Please complete the eConsult in the patients name, indicating on the form the name and details of the person to contact.

Thank you

Routine Appointment

Patients will only be seen by the GP if they have a booked appointment. We no longer offer a walk-in service at the Practice.

If you have an urgent but not life-threatening medical need, please call NHS 111. If your loved one has a life-threatening illness or injury then you should always dial 999.

NHS 111: Please call or go online to NHS 111 rather than going straight to A&E.

NHS 111 online: 111.NHS.UK will help you right away and if needed a healthcare professional will call you.

NHS 111 can direct you to an urgent treatment centre / walk in centre, emergency dental services, GP, Pharmacy or another more appropriate local service.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance. (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or Call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

When GP Practice appointments have reached capacity for the day

Once the Practice has reached full capacity (this decision is made by the Duty Doctor) and emergency on the day telephone  slots are fully booked the Reception team will manually change the telephone message in the option 1, appointment line.  A full policy can be found here.

Home Visits

If possible please try to telephone reception before 10am if you require a home visit.

A GP or Nurse Lead may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, or that it would be more appropriate to send a nurse practitioner, or indeed arrange a hospital attendance.

House visits are only available for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability. Each visit request will be assessed on a case by case basis and patients may be asked to use public transport or seek assistance of friends and family to get into the surgery where appropriate.

Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the Practice.

Enhanced Access

Extra Appointments Available at GP Practices in Ashford

Evening, weekend and bank holiday appointments will be available with range of Primary Care health professionals in Ashford.

These extra appointments, alongside existing services, will allow patients to pre-book routine appointments with healthcare professionals between 8am and 8pm each weekday as well as appointments on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays.

Appointments will be provided from practices in different locations within Ashford, not necessarily at the patient's own surgery, but the health professionals treating them will, with their consent, be able to see their full medical records.

Anyone needing to make an appointment should contact their GP practice in the first instance.

Trained reception staff will know when appointments are available and with which healthcare professional.  They will be able to book an appointment at either the patients’ own surgery or one of the other practices providing appointments within Ashford.   Patients should advise the receptionist if they particularly want an evening or weekend appointment.

Please note, these extra appointments will be available for pre-booked care.  It is important to remember that anyone who needs medical assistance when their practice is closed should continue to dial NHS 111.
